Patients with diabetes mellitus may develop
peripheral polyneuropathy (PN). The symptoms of PN include numbness
or tingling in the hands and feet, usually in a symmetrical distribution
on both sides (right and left). Some patients may experience
weakness of the muscles of the hands and feet also. Some patients
are also afflicted with pain. The pain of a diabetic PN may be
described as burning, hot, ice picks, pins and needles, aching or
soreness. The pain may not be present at all times but rather it may
come and go. It may be particularly aggravating at night and make it
difficult to get to sleep or stay asleep. Current treatment relies
on symptomatic pain relief with pain medication and many patients are
using gabapentin, a nerve pain modulator. We are looking for men and women at least 18 years old with Type 1 or 2 Diabetes who suffer from painful diabetic neuropathy to participate in a clinical research study. The study tests the effectiveness of the investigational use of a marketed product for the treatment of pain associated with painful diabetic neuropathy (PDN). This constant pain may be described as shocking, burning, piercing, or throbbing. All office visits, medical evaluations, and study medications related to this study will be provided at no cost to patients. If you or someone you know is interested in
participating in this important research trial please call Jaime at: 1 800 255-1414 contact us: |
